Course Details:
A foot care technician attends to all of the common
conditions that affect the foot and leg. This can range from
routine care of the nails, through treatment of verrucas and
hard corns, to flatfeet, to bunions to functional problems
of the foot.
There is a great need of good foot care technicians in
Ireland today as there is a higher proportion of elderly
people in our population and fewer young people to look
after them. Add to this the rise in diabetes (diabetics have
need of professional foot care often on a continuous basis)
and overweight people generally - who make heavy demands
upon their feet and you can begin to see the potential.
Finally, sporting people are always anxious to ensure their
feet are in excellent order.
This course covers all the necessary topics involved in the
work of a foot care technician.
Course structure:
This programme covers the theory of
being a foot care technician. It consists of 12 distance
learning modules, done at home without the need to attend
college but of course you have access to unlimited
one-to-one tutor support.
As a foot care technician you can deliver essential foot
care wherever it is needed in the private sector. You will
be able to recognise and assess foot conditions, treat them
appropriately and refer where necessary.
Many people need simple foot care to
maintain mobility and quality of life. Being elderly,
overweight or diabetic increases the need, and each of these
conditions is rapidly increasing in prevalence in our ageing
population.
Working as an independent foot care technician you will
apply appropriate skills in a wide range of settings. You
may develop yourself and choose to visit individual clients
in their homes, attend residents of Rest Homes and Nursing
Homes, or visit industrial and commercial sites for the
benefit of employees. Many foot care technicians choose to
establish their base at home to provide a reliable and
responsive service to their local population.
Course objectives
To prepare you for self-employed private practice as a foot
care technician.
You will develop your own patient caseload, determine the
treatment that is needed and apply it as you see fit.
Course entry requirements
You do not need any specific academic qualifications beyond
the ability to be able to, read, write and speak English
fluently.
How long will it take to complete the
course?

much depends on your own situation and the amount of time
you have available to study.

The test asks questions to determine:
- Are you a 'Take-Charge' type?
- Are you a manipulative person?
- Are you a real friend when the going gets rough?
- How popular are you?
- Could you be your own boss?
- What's your leadership potential?
The objective is not only to help you achieve greater
personal and professional success - but to show you how to
get what you really want out of life.
Management/Leadership Skills Test All students of this course have the option to take a
Management/Leadership Test for an additional cost of €50.00.
This test is conducted on our behalf by Verax international.
This test has to be taken on line and the results will be
sent directly to each student by email usually within 3/4
working days.
We urge you to complete this test as it will provide you
with invaluable help and guidance in enabling you to get the
most out for your learning. The assessment sent to you when
you complete the test will not count in any way to your
eventual qualification. It is intended to enable you to
understand your strengths and weaknesses and so concentrate
on those parts of the course that are most valuable to you.
You may think that you are already aware of these. However,
systematic research shows that just over half the population
are unaware of their real strengths, let alone their real
weaknesses.
This test provides you with a systematic way of assuring
these for yourself. Answer honestly. There are no right or
wrong answers. Only you will see the results.
The test will allow you to assess your own performance
against 16 key management/leader competencies - such as
customer focus, decision making, creativity and team working
- which are valued by employers and which are very important
for effective performance as a manager or team leader. There
is one test for managers in the public sector and a separate
test for all other managers. Depending on which version
chosen, your performance is benchmarked either against
15,000 or so managers in the database or against public
sector managers only. In summary, this unique test will show you what to stop
doing (or do less of) and what to start doing (or do more
of) in order to become more effective in your current
role/activity. In effect, you are told what you need to do
to become a more effective manager and team leader and most
important of all, how to do it. Good luck with
your studies. Back to Career
