Course Details:
This three part course will enable you to achieve vital qualifications that will assist you in developing a career in childminding. Part 1 will provide you with the skills and understanding needed when just starting out as a childminder. Part 2 will facilitate you in providing a high-quality childminding service. Part 3 permits you to sit the final examination to obtain a recognised Diploma in Childminding Practice from ITEC.

The entire course was prepared by specialists and, as of early 2005, is right up-to-date with current Irish regulations and legislation.

Introductory Childminding Practice (Level 1)

Home Study Course comprising of 6 Modules
Course Fee €435

Module 1: Introductory exercise. The opening Module deals with Health & Safety aspects of running a childminding practice from your home so that on completion of this module you should be able to keep your home and garden safe for children, help children stay healthy and be able to cope with emergencies. Exercise 1

Module 2: Covers the extensive area of working with children and concentrates in establishing routines and providing play and other activities. Exercise 2

Module 3: Continues with the subject of working with children and deals specifically with assisting children settle into their new environment and also with managing their behaviour. Exercise 3

Module 4: Concentrates on establishing a relationship with parents. Exercise 4

Module 5: Covers the thorny area of suspected child abuse. Exercise 5

Module 6: Deals with registration, record keeping, insurance and financial matters. Exercise 6

The fee for these 6 Modules above including the exercises that all combine to make-up PART 1- Introductory Childminding Practice is €325.

Intermediate Childminding Practice (Level 2)

Advanced Childminding Practice (Level 3)

Module 1 Up-dating your introductory exercise. This opening Module then goes on to look at different ways of thinking and analysing the ways children learn and develop.

Module 2: Looks at children's sensory, intellectual and communication developments. Exercises 2 and 3

Module 3 Deals with physical development.

Module 4: Examines goals and desirable outcomes.

Module 5: Curriculum planning. Exercise 4

Module 6: Disabled children.

Module 7: Child protections and children with behavioural or emotional difficulties.

Module 8: Infectious diseases. Exercise 5

Module 9: Anti-discriminatory practice.

Module 10: Assertiveness. Exercise 6

The fee for these 10 Modules above including the 6 assignments that all combine to make-up PART 3 - Advanced Childminding Practice is €425.

Personality/Intelligence Test

All our students have the option to take this revealing test for an additional cost of €25.00.

Management/Leadership Skills Test

All students of this course have the option to take a Management/Leadership Test for an additional cost of €50.00. This test is conducted on our behalf by Verax international. This test has to be taken on line and the results will be sent directly to each student by email usually within 3/4 working days.

We urge you to complete this test as it will provide you with invaluable help and guidance in enabling you to get the most out for your learning. The assessment sent to you when you complete the test will not count in any way to your eventual qualification. It is intended to enable you to understand your strengths and weaknesses and so concentrate on those parts of the course that are most valuable to you.

You may think that you are already aware of these. However, systematic research shows that just over half the population are unaware of their real strengths, let alone their real weaknesses.

This test provides you with a systematic way of assuring these for yourself. Answer honestly. There are no right or wrong answers. Only you will see the results.

The test will allow you to assess your own performance against 16 key management/leader competencies – such as customer focus, decision making, creativity and team working – which are valued by employers and which are very important for effective performance as a manager or team leader. There is one test for managers in the public sector and a separate test for all other managers. Depending on which version chosen, your performance is benchmarked either against 15,000 or so managers in the database or against public sector managers only.

In summary, this unique test will show you what to stop doing (or do less of) and what to start doing (or do more of) in order to become more effective in your current role/activity. In effect, you are told what you need to do to become a more effective manager and team leader and most important of all, how to do it.

Accreditation

When you have completed this course you may take a final examination. Full details of this examination are automatically sent to you as you near the end of the course. The examination costs €65 and is taken at home at your convenience.  If you receive 70% or more in this examination you will receive an ITEC Diploma.
